It differs from many of the better known CMSes in that it uses fully PHP5 object oriented code, modelled from Ruby on Rails. This allows you to very cleanly customize and extend the system to suit your needs, in a way evolved from php4's Cake. The new version continues to be completely standards compliant but now provides much better cross-compatibility, working perfectly in FireFox, Internet Explorer, and installable on Windows, Apple and Linux servers.
The administration system and various public site features (e.g. blog) use AJAX to speed up the system, and have benefitted from years of customer feedback and a major usability study.
It is suitable for building a small (10 page) website through to a site demanding millions of page views a month, with complex integration. The framework also rapidly lets you customise the administration so you can keep it simple and lean where needed, or provide sophisticated data-entry or workflow.
Best of all, we've open sourced the application under the (very open) popular BSD license, meaning the system is completely free, and lets you be in full control
