How to make a bad comparison site
1) Show an incredibly long list with mostly never-heard-of Choices and dont even try to hint the user with filtering suggestions like a popularity index or age of entry sort.
2) Give the user a pseudo-search function to narrow down results. This should include fake selections (like "Programming language", which does not list languages like Python, although several Python Entries are on the list) and left-out vital items (like "uses AJAX").
3) Dont offer sorting by search criteria, this would make things too easy for the user.
4) once the user has selected some entries for comparison, present an error dialogue that tells him that he chose too many items without telling him how many he selected or even how many would be allowed. He sure can find out himself by guessing.
Following these rules will create maximun frustration for the user and avoid overload on your server (because noone will ever come back). Good luck!
These types of emails/messages are really unfortunate. CMSmatrix.org is a community project and is administered by VOLUNTEERS. Insulting CMSmatrix.org and our volunteers is like insulting the Red Cross for not helping you enough in a natural disaster.
If you have feedback, definitely submit it (in a respectful manner) and we'll be happy to incorporate the changes as long as it is of benefit to everyone.
Since there are over 2000 products in the CMS market, it is very difficult to come up with a perfect solution for comparing all of the products. However, we continue to modify our engine and our site to help thousands of people a day compare CMS solutions.
Here are the answers/corrections to your points:
#1 - The huge list of CMS solutions on the site are all submitted by the VENDORS who develop them. And we want ALL vendors to be able to list their products/features freely. That is the whole point of the CMS matrix! We aren't trying to be like everyone else and only compare 5-10 of the major CMS products. The whole point is to be able to find new/existing solutions that will work for your website project or organization. And so we have over 1050 that have been added by their respective vendors. It's a great accomplishment for the CMS industry and community!
#2 - The search is in real-time. You simply choose your criteria and each time you select an option in the fields, it updates the CMS list and places a checkbox next to the products that meet the criteria. When you've entered the criteria you want, then just click "compare" and it will then compare the products that are checked.
Note: We are in the process of making a change to search. Instead of showing all products, (and having checks next to matching products), we will change this so that you will only see the products that are checked. This will remove much of the confusion surrounding the search function on the site. We've received a good amount of feedback about this and are happy to make the change to improve the site. :)
#3 - You state that Python is not listed but it is *clearly* listed under the "Programming Language" field. Also, you'll notice that most programming languages have an AJAX option. That's why it wasn't a separate searchable field. However, if you wanted an AJAX field then why not just request that it be added? It's a fairly simple request and that is much preferred over a very sarcastic and negative email. Why look like an idiot when it can be easily avoided?
#4 - Okay, this is a great example of how user feedback makes the site better. I don't think we were aware of this because it is a side affect of the previous upgrade. Now that you have brought this to my attention, I'll send a request to our developers and have them modify this. Thanks! :)
Alright, well I guess we've reached the end of this post. For anyone who is reading, I hope you appreciate our volunteer efforts here at CMSmatrix. We aren't perfect and we know there are a few more snags we have to address after the last major engine upgrade. Please hang in there and if you have positive feedback/requests you want to submit, feel free to do so!

Tavis @ CMSmatrix
Though I disagree with bugmenot, having found CMSMatrix extremely useful in the past, I have issues with the updated search feature.
Almost all of the system requirement search boxes are useless, because developers all type in their information differently. For example, if I select PHP, it seems like the more specific PHP options wont show up... Perhaps make the search function smarter using wildcards to an extent?
Yep, we've received lots of feedback about this and we're working on a solution for it. The problem occurred because we originally allowed vendors to type in whatever they wanted in the "System Requirements" fields. When we migrated to the new engine we had to migrate that data so that it wouldn't be lost and the outcome was that it generated all of the fields you see now.
Our team is working on a solution for this because it most definitely has to be simplified. The goal is to have the System Requirement fields be simple options as well so that the search feature is easy to use.
Thanks for the feedback. If you guys have more, definitely feel free to let us know. Thanks!
id like to see an option for language im not talking about programming language but like english and what not
ive been going to a few of the main sites and seeing like german and other crazy language
