Hello,

I'm searching for a CMS that WONT be for blogging. I'm a graphic designer and looking for a good way to let my client edit their TEXT content.

Here's what I'm looking for :

1- Easy to integrate (include file .php?section1) in the code and will display the page.

2- Works with multiple sections

3- Simple

4- I want to put the code to MY design, I don't want to build a site templates on the CMS (too many design restrictions).

5- The CMS to be able to work with the styles I gave for titles, fonts, etc.

Here are some that dont fit : WordPress, CMS Made Simple, sNews, sPIP.

I buy a case of beer to anybody who finds a good solution to me :-)

Regards everybody,

Fred

Nothing springs to mind, however I'm curious:

- Do you want your client to be able to add images?

- Add links?

- Add tables?

It sounds like you want to limit your client to merely editing "content", while you handle everything else. This is certainly fine, but I'm curious how limited you wish the CMS to be.

Thanks for answering...

The client may change the TEXT content only. If I make a nice looking layout and my name is at the bottom, I don't want him to ruin the design.

The client may add tables and links.

This is a big problem at CMS... Their all made to change everything on the site and need to be skined with a template and the never ending story.

Adobe Contribute is a good option but is a software which represents technical support from my part which I'm not interested in providing. I want everything to be on the server, less trouble for me and the client.

Hello,

Have you taken a look at Matchbin?  I was looking for a solution and dig/compare some solutions with CMS systems.  Matchbin seems to be a good fit for you.

Let me know how it goes...

Well it looks good, but much too complicated for my needs...

Thank you for you time though!

You are correct that most CMS's are attempting to enable people to edit everything.   Or at least most things.

A few thoughts:

Are you comfortable giving your client access to FTP and simply letting them edit text files?  You could then include those text files into your design.  This isn't terribly friendly or clean, but it might work.

You mentioned PHP earlier so I am assuming you are looking for a PHP solution.  For my own web site I am using a CMS called Sitefinity, but it is an ASP.NET solution.  Sitefinity uses a combination of web controls & a WYSIWYG editor to allows users to edit the pages.  The web controls can be disabled and you could also disable features in the WYSIWYG editor (like image uploading).  Sitefinity is probably overkill for your project though.  Furthermore, I would not recommend Sitefinity unless you feel comfortable with ASP.NET.

You might also be able to configure a web-based WYSIWYG editor to allow your client to edit text files that you then include in the designs.  I did a quick Google search and found this:

http://www.fckeditor.net/

Again, you can configure the WYSIWYG editor and disable features you do not want your client to have access to.

I'm sorry but I don't know of an "out of the box" solution that suits your needs.  At best, you might simply be able to disable features of an existing solution.  I am simply trying to help brain-storm some ideas.

 Hi Fred,

I feel your pain. I am a designer too and I hate all of the Technical rubbish that destroys my initial design. I found (on this site) a company called Aspire and am currently building my first project with them. They are great! The guy I am dealing with there is Steve Myster and his number is 617-933-1774 x 260

Give him a call and tell him what you are looking for you wont be sorry.

Good luck,

Webguy

Well I'm a programmer and I resent the reference to "technical rubbish".   :)   :)    I'm just joking around.

There will always be be some tension between "designers",  "programmers", & "users".  All 3 percieve the web site slightly differently.  Finding that balance is always a struggle.

I'm glad you found a solution that works for you Webguy.

Has a graphic designer working in the web interactive agency, what I love the most about our programmers here is that they respect the design we do and put everything perfectly pixel by pixel.
